Awareness is the first step in change. Awareness is stopping and acknowledging that you aren’t happy. Being aware that you ‘just don’t feel right’, being aware of the feeling in your gut that is telling you somethings’ not quite right. Trusting your intuition, that niggling thought or feeling that this isn’t who you are, this isn’t who you want to be, this isn’t what you want to be doing, this lifestyle, job, relationship isn’t what you want.

People disregard their feelings, they keep ‘busy’, always doing ‘things, being busy at work, busy with other ‘things’ to try and avoid looking at themselves and their lives. It takes a lot of courage to sit down and take stock of your life. If you do this, if you sit, quietly and look at your life, the work you’re doing, the relationship you are in, the sort of person you are, the lifestyle you’re living then you may in fact uncover that things aren’t the way you’d like them to be.

Once you are aware that there is something in your life that you are not happy with what do you do then? Some people just continue on doing something, even though it is making them unhappy, or if it is not fulfilling them.

The philosophical question “Why are we here?” comes to mind as I write this and I strongly believe that we are here to enjoy life, to be happy, to be fulfilled, to be successful (whatever success means to you personally). I really believe this. Though you can’t be happy, fulfilled and successful if you aren’t aware of what it is you want, specifically.

I see a lot of people consciously avoiding self awareness. They feel something is wrong with their lives but they don’t want to look at it. The phrase ignorance is bliss comes to mind, meaning if you don’t know; you don’t have to worry, or you don’t have to do anything about it. People are also scared of change. If they become aware of an area in their lives that they are not happy with then what do they do? They have two choices really, one is to ignore it and just get on with it which many people do, feeling that is their ‘lot in life’ or continuously complaining and blaming others for their unhappiness, or,  you do something about it. This involves change, action, a plan to get you from A to B, to get you from that horrible soul destroying job to the job you’ve always dreamed of. To leave that unhealthy relationship, that is becoming more toxic each day, to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city to the quiet countryside (if that’s you’re dream).

Becoming more aware, having self awareness, knowing what you want is sometimes scary, but to go about your life unconsciously is dreadful. Instead of looking at it in a negative way, look at it in a positive way. Look at all the possibilities and choices you have! Look at all the things that you could be doing! Play with this new found awareness, have fun with it!

OK, so you’re not happy with your career? What do you want to do instead? Don’t worry at this stage about the how, the how comes later and is pretty easy to plan, the what is the vital question at the moment. Get out a large sheet of paper and write down all the different jobs that come to mind. That show you were watching last night, where the lady was an author, did that excite you? Write it down, what hobbies do you do? What do you LOVE doing? What books do you read? What people do you respect and admire, why? and what do they do?

This is just an example, you can do the same thing in any area of your life that you don’t feel fulfilled with.

Live consciously, design the life you want to live. It takes time, it takes planning and it takes hard work but the alternative is to remain stagnant and unhappy and wondering what could have been.

Have a Mojo Day

Peace Out

My book ’52 Ways To Get Your Mojo Back’ is underway as it my personal development training ‘My Mojo’ which will be available as an online video training program. This training goes into much detail about firstly gaining the awareness and then putting an action plan together to achieve that goal. There is a full module on career choice, so you can do what you love and love what you do. I will keep you updated as to when it is available.
