What is Self Development?

Self Development and Personal Development are terms generally used to describe same concept.

The aim of Self Development is to achieve your full potential, whether that be in your personal or professional life. It is a deliberate focus to improve yourself your life, and to turn your goals and dreams into realities. Those who have committed to their Self Development, want to improve their feelings of happiness, and move away from negativity. They are motivated to explore and improve themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Some of the benefits of Self Development are:

  • Fulfilling goals and dreams
  • Becoming self aware
  • Becoming the person you aspire to be
  • Developing your spirituality and connection to others
  • Enhancing the quality of your life

I think the main goal of those on the path of Self Development is to become, do and have, what they want in life: to enjoy life to the fullest.

When we were children we looked to our parents and our peers for help and guidance. As adults, we  need to look within, and learn to rely on ourselves to decide what it is we want in life.

One of the first steps in Self Development is to write down your goals. This sounds easy but can be quite tricky and often turns out to be an emotional experience, particularly if you come to the realization that  you are not being true to yourself and living the life someone else has created for you.  Often people are living their lives trying to meet the expectations of others by doing the sort of work that their parents or other peers want them to do, being the kind of person that their friends and partner expect them to be, having the material items that other people say one ‘should’ have to be happy.
